As we move into the final months of the school year, our priority remains providing a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment for every student. To support this mission, I ask for your partnership in reviewing our school-wide expectations regarding physical safety.
The Importance of "Hands to Self"
In the last few weeks, we have observed an increase in students engaging in "playful" physical contact during recess and transitions. While often starting as a friendly or high-energy interaction, we have found that this type of play frequently escalates. What begins as playful often becomes too aggressive for one or more of the students involved, unfortunately leading to physical conflict and hurt feelings.
To ensure the safety of all students at AOE, we will continue to strictly enforce the expectation that students keep their hands, feet, and bodies to themselves at all times.
Our Commitment to a Positive Environment Physical safety is a priority for our school, and it directly correlates with our expectations for kind and respectful language as well as for bringing only school-appropriate supplies and items from home - no items that may be perceived as dangerous or harmful. Our goal remains to foster an environment where every student feels secure, safe, and respected. When these expectations are not met, our team will follow up with restorative conferencing and reflective opportunities as well as any appropriate consequences and discipline.
To ensure all students have a clear understanding of these expectations, we have hosted a follow-up Eagle Expectations Presentation upon our return from Spring Break. This serves as a proactive "reset" to ensure we finish the school year strong, safe, and kind. We appreciate you taking a moment to sit down with your child to reinforce the importance of keeping their body to themselves while at school.
Thank you for your continued support in keeping AOE a wonderful place to learn.
Warmly,
Ms. Yamasaki
